Hiya all!

If you read some of my previous blog posts, you may of read about content theft and the infamous NeilLife kid. Recently, Skills Hak, an SL developer released a new product called ‘GEMINI CDS Ban Relay’ (CDS, Client Detection System). This nifty product will automatically detect the viewer an avatar is using the moment they enter the sim, it will then check the viewer details against a list of viewers in the Black Listed database and ban/TP home the avatar according to the owners settings. Black Listed viewers include any viewer that is illegal, in other words it violates Second Life Terms of Service or many laws regarding Intellectual Property (DMCA). That means any viewer that has the ability to steal content, grief or in any way cause harm to the SL world would be on the list.

I have already setup a couple of CDS’s in my sim, and have already detected 5 illegal viewers so far. (Out of usually about 50-100 visitors a day) – I talked a little bit to the CDS devs about creating an API for their Client Detection System, this would allow other developers such a myself to add CDS into our products. This means the Phenom could detect and warn you about people using illegal viewers, as well as delete itself if the owner is using an illegal viewer. (It already does this with CryoLife)

Along with the new ’3PVP’ (Third Party Viewer Policy) and Viewer 2.0, this will hopefully be the end of illegal viewers and content theft!

PS: No surprise to me, the NeilLife Kid is going crazy over CDS, making up stories about how it uses old [fixed] exploits in SL (Ironically) to steal files from your computer. (Sounds suspiciously like Darling Brody, making up stories about how my old registration system is used to steal your IP address so I could hack into your computers)
